QuestionAre we due for a dramatic climate change on Dec. 21, 2012 for the first time in 5200 years followed by a minor ice age and if so, will this end life on earth?
I read this on a university's website (http://researchnews.osu.edu/archive/5200event.htm) and it says there is scientific proof we are due for a big climate change for the first time in 5200 years.
Your question is interesting because it illustrates how easily scientific information can get garbled in the retelling. There is no prediction of climate change on Dec. 21, 2012 followed by a minor ice age. What the 2004 press release on the Ohio State website says is that one of their professors has evidence of a relatively sudden cooling that took place about 5200 years ago. It does not say that this is going to happen again, and it certainly does not mention any date in 2012. It was also written before there was such strong evidence for global warming due to increases in heat-trapping gases in the atmosphere, an effect that is overwhelming whatever slow natural climate cycles may be occurring. And finally, a short period of cooling such as may have taken place 5 millennia ago would not in any way threaten life on Earth — we have had many ice ages and life has carried on just fine. Global cooling is not something you should worry about, and linking such ideas to 2012 is unjustified.

QuestionHi, i have a question about the sun alignment in the center of the galaxy in 2012. Will the sun be in the EXACT center of the galaxy? or just lined up/next to the center of the sun. If you can, can you explain this to me. (15 years old) Thank you very much.I can't explain it because it is just an Internet hoax. There is no alignment with the center of the Galaxy in 2012 or any time. As to the Sun being in the center of the Galaxy, that it impossible; the Sun and solar system will always remain at about 30,000 light years from the galactic center. These stories on the Internet are simply lies, and I am sorry if they have been a problem for you. A lot of the stuff on the Internet is wrong, and you have to learn to distinguish the truth from the lies. One simple test is to ask if any of these claims are made by real scientists, or if they have been reported in newspapers or on TV news. The stories about alignments or disaster striking in 2012 do not pass this test.
